Part Time Route Setter

Are you an experienced route setter looking to be part of a creative and dynamic team focused on raising the standards of setting in the South West?

This is a great role for anyone who aspires to be part of a team while helping to shape the setting identity of a centre.  We are looking for someone who is curious, creative and genuinely interested in helping climbers of all abilities develop their technical climbing skills.  We are seeking someone who has the experience to work independently without significant supervision but who is looking to work within and alongside  our existing team of setters.

The Headlines

Part-time role: open to candidates seeking to work 18 hours per week

Location: Boulder Exe, Exeter, with some set days at Quay Climbing, Exeter

Competitive pay, according to experience

Start date: Tuesday 7th April

What You Will Do

Create high-quality, creative boulders that reflect modern movement with a diverse range of styles

Work collaboratively with the setting team to deliver consistent, inspiring problems across a broad spectrum of styles and grades

Influence wall identity and reputation with climbers locally and across the industry

Be part of sustaining and developing the vision for our centres

Experience and Skills Required

Essential Experience and Skills

Commercial route setter experience (ideally 2+ years setting, but we’re open to strong alternatives if you can demonstrate the skills required at interview)

Comfortable operating up to V7-V9 variety of styles and setting

Ability to set across a wide range of movement styles, from modern comp-influenced blocs to accessible, commercial boulders

An interest in setting for high-performance climbing

A genuine interest in creating boulders that challenge climbers through movement, problem-solving and flow

A collaborative mindset and good work ethic

Professional approach to safety, consistency and quality control

 

Desirable Experience and Skills

Roped setting experience

Lead climbing at 7b and above

Experience working across multiple centres or wall styles

RSD qualification

Interview Process

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview with our Centre Director and setting team.  The interview process will include an opportunity to set with the team and discuss your approach to setting.
